RE: Passenger Airbag in the MK4

I am wanting to disable it for the purposes of putting a child seat in the front of the 3 door car my wife uses - is this possible and has anyone on here done it?

I am assuming there is just a plug for it behind the glovebox somewhere to unplug...

I dont think you can disable it to be honest. If you unplug the air bag then the warning light will come on and the airbag system will not function correctly and may not work in an accident.

May have to use the back seat.

Can you not unplug it and join the 2 wires like when you fit a non airbag wheel?

No airbags are measured in a resistor circuit, lowering the resistance will fail the whole system, i am pretty sure VX can disable it via tech two but some may not want to as it is a safety feature and if you have a collision and someone gets seriously injured or worse the VX garage could be open to law suits

Just use a forward facing child seat with the seat fully back on the runners. Or pop em on the roof rack?

    They won't do it.
As Enigma said, they will be removing a safety feature from the car, which won't go down too well if an accident occurs.
Your insurance company won't be too happy about it either.

You could probably get a back-street garage to do it, but on your head be it.
Or your child's as the case may be.

    My advice, DON'T do it

I work for vaux crash testing at millbrook, what you can do is with the ignition OFF, unplugg the lead and put at 2r2k ohom resitor (known as a squib) into the connector, that will fool the system into thinking its still plugged in, no lights on all airbags will fire in event of accident.

    Really????????????

My MOMO boss kit came with a short bit of wire and a fuse to join the two connections together and its fine.
