I dont think your problem is virus related, sounds more like a hardware problem than anything. Do any bluescreens flash on the screen or does it just restart?

As for anti virus, Nod32, end of, no need to recommend any more than this, it IS the best anti virus software out there.

AVG, it's always done the job for me. As above though, it doesn't really sound like a virus.

    thanks everyone
Ive had the blue screen once
normally the screen goes blank once then 5 mins later again.
Other times the mouse stops working and everything freezes
I have not long ago reinstalled a new copy of windows as when the pc was built a dodgy copy was put on it (even though i payed for a new one)

I hope you reported the company that sold you the pc?

If its not a software problem i would put my money on memory as the most likely cause to this problem, if you download a program called memtest86 , burn it to disk then run it, usually for about 24 hours but it can error much sooner than that if there are serious problems with your ram, this should tell you if there is a problem with the memory or not.

Looking like you need to find yourself a new computer shop.

i have 4 slots for ram in the motherboard, they sold me 2 sets of 2 but i questioned that fact that one set was slightly bigger than the other and was told its fine.
To just run the pc with 2 which slots do they go in?
