    can/how do you fix/repair a sticking valve 1.4 16v G

as title, i have a friend with an x reg astra g with the 1.4 16v engine, only covered 20k miles!
and it has developed what we belive to be a sticky valve on cylinder 3, it is intermittent.
when it occurs the EM light flashes and records a misfire on cylinder 3
engine also runs lumpy during this.
can the valve be fixed? what generally causes a sticking valve-i.e. can he expect some more to stick?

he has tried using a thinner oil but didnt want to pay vauxhalls estimated £800 to take the head off and "have a look!"

    thanks in advance

Try an oil additive, such as Wynns, it goes round the engine and loosens up all mechanisms, sort of makes a strange sound at first but give it a few days and its quiet. Only like £4.99 so worth a try HTH

A good drive for like 20 minutes after you've added the treatment should be enough. But then again the valve might be sticking due to a lack of use, if that makes sense.

Before parting with cash, take it for a run, let it warm up for 10-15 minutes, then give it a fair bit of beans the astra i've got ran like a crock of sh*t but it had been standing for 6 months.

Took it for a run and let it warm up, and the gave it some beans and it was all right afterwards

Tell him to give it a good "Rag" excuse the terminology, but might clear it out, if not then that Wynns treatment (found at halfords) should do the trick.

forte claims to fix this exact fault with its engine flush. I did a full engine treatment on mine after rebuilting it to make sure it was totally clean and it certainly did get every little bit ot crap out. after that you put an aditive in with your new oil and thats it done.
