Unhappy Astra H 1.6 - What do you get on a full tank?

Hi guys, posting this as I''m a bit worried

Only recently had an Astra Sport Hatch 1.6 16v - 2005 model. Filled it up for the first time completely and the needle didn't move off full on the fuel indicator until 80-100 miles or so. Now I know this happens in all cars - happens in my van and my old Corsa... anyway as I said, got to 100 miles or so then the needle came off the full mark... got to 130miles now on the tank and it's dropped to 3/4 really worried because on my vans and old Corsa it dropped really slowly but on my Astra I seemed to have dropped fuel really quick

Sorry if I'm just being stupid but I'm kinda worried... totally unexperienced here

My old 1.6 mk4 used to do that when I brimmed it. Seemed to drop quite quick. If I did a bit of christen motoring I could get 425 miles from tank

Yeah I've started driving really carefully now, I never really drive fast anyway - just in small spurts now and then hope I get that much outta my tank

I gave up paying much attention to the fuel gauge beyond 'Oh, close to empty'...The whole half/full/quarter stuff is plain inaccurate, seems to do way different mileage between each quarter marker for me whether on LPG or petrol...

My MK4 1.6 16v gets (OK, this was years ago when I last ran a full tnak of petrol!) 400+ out of a tank if I'm nice to it.

Lol makes me wonder how the hell I used to drive my '55 Corsa SXi 1.2 16V Twinport 320miles on a full tank (that's a 45litre tank)

Astra (MK4 anyhow) is a 55-litre as far as I recall. About 25% more than the Corsa which may explain the difference in mileage per tank.

Well I used to get 100 miles per 1/4 of a tank when brimming it. But the Astra G is a lighter car than an Astra H so you'll suffer a bit more for having a newer car with a newer engine (sorry).

But do a test. When you get home tonight look at the position of the needle. Remember it. Get in the next morning and look at it again (it'll go down). No you won't have fuel guzzling pixies the needle averages out the floats position in the tank. Because its been sitting still all night long it'll give you a more accurate reading than if your driving. Try it. Take the car out for a run after its been sitting and watch your needle move upwards.

Mine has a 52 litre tank.

And yeah it does go up sometimes when driving just got a bit freaked out as none of my cars/vans have done it this noticeably before

Speaking of vans, got a '51 1.8TD Escort van yesterday... bring on the powAh! the mule!
