    Gearbox or Clutch Problem

    MK4 Golf:

I hope someone can help me with this, as I am not sure if this is a gearbox or clutch related problem.

    Whilst stationary:

    Press clutch to floor.
Try to engage first, but wont go into first.
Release clutch, press clutch. Sometimes it will go in, but sometimes, it will crunch even if clutch is pressed to floor. Their have been times, I have to press and release the clutch a couple of times before I can engage first.

    On the move:

I find when I am slowing down for a roundabout, traffice lights whatever, just before the car comes to a halt, I can get the car into first gear without much problems. However, when I come to a complete stop, I get the above??

This occurs no matter if the car is started up from cold or after it has warmed up.

    Thanks all

I would bleed the clutch out first, if this improves it short term then a new slave cylinder would be a first port of call.
