Cool Wanting to fit Induction Kit on Mk5...

So, I plan on fitting an induction kit to my Mk5 Sport Hatch... I'm not really into the mechanics of the car, electronics is my thing but my friends have recommended K&N?

All I want to know is:
    a) Will it add bhp?
    b) Will it make the car sound 'meatier'?
    c) Is it worth doing this or fitting a Vectra C intake pipe instead?

My Uncle is a mechanic so if I have too much trouble fitting or changing anything then he can help me... Just wanted to ask you guys who actually own Astras and may recommend things

    a) On a 1.6 maybe 2-3 bhp if you are lucky!
    b) Will sound meatier if you put your foot flat down, otherwise no under 'normal' driving
    c) I personally would'nt as it will probably screw up your throttle response like it did on my previous other two cars that i have had with a K&N. Best thing to do is to have a look at the technical guide to de-restrict the airbox and do the Cav mk3 pipe conversion instead.

    Obviously personal choice though!

(Note: make sure that you buy a paper element induction kit, and not one that requires a layer of oil, as this oil can, and has too many... nackered the MAF)

Let us know what you go for!

In my experience they make the car sound better/louder/faster, but in reality create flat spots, blunt performance and make the car generally run worse (especially in warm conditions).
    Previous Astras: 1994 Cesaro 1.8 16v | 2002 SXi 1.6 16v | 2001 Coupé 2.0 Turbo | 1999 LS 1.6 16v
    Other Vauxhalls: 2001 Vectra 1.8 16v| 2003 Vectra GSi 3.2 V6 | 2005 Signum CDTi 150

If you want to do that, change the badge on the back to 1.4 and get the engine remapped to up the power to 110bhp. That would give them a shock!

If its on the mk5 why not just fit the VXR pipe, does the same as the veccy c pipe but is a direct fit

My phylosophy is that so long as you have the list below you can make anything fit!

    1. A bit of patience
    2. A good Hammer
    3. Some cable ties
    4. Some creative ideas - to use stuff others may not think off!
    5. A good DIY store
    6. & glue should the cable ties fail!

(Not nesesarily in that order though!)

    A bit bodgy i know!

Heh give me electronics any day - I'm lost if I try to use anything other than a terminal screwdriver and soldering iron

Anyway fired off an e-mail to my local Vauxhall dealer to get a quote for the VXR parts so hopefully it shall be all sorted soon! Thanks for the advice guys
