    POssible Cheap Track Cars ??

Hi everyone. Me and a mate are thinking about buying a cheap car to use on the odd track day here and there to save wear on our main cars.

We were looking at spending about £1000-£1500 on the car, and possibly £500 more on simple mods (bucket seats, lowering, strut braces etc...) then strip the interior completely.

I know it's not much but we don't want to spend anymore on something that will only get used 4 or 5 days a year around a track for fun.

Anyway... anyone got any ideas as to what would make a fun cheap track car?

I'm thinking it's got to be a 205 GTI, but has anyone else got any idea???

    Cheers

Yeah, I see a lot of 206GTi running about the local track - the 1.6 is probably better than the 1.9, they handle a little better.

You could also try one of the Civics with the 1.6 VTec in it. It's a Mk5 Civic with the B16A engine you want. 150hp@7600rpm and 111lb-ft@7000rpm - great for screaming round you local track, and are totally and utterly indestructable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Civic

205 GTi is the track car of choice up here, but raise the bar and go for a 309GTi. Handling is a bit more predictable on the limit and with Mi power it'll outpace XE Corsas and Novas. Bets thing is they can be had for next to nothing and due to their Group N days, go faster bits are ten a penny.

Ford Fester MK2 XR2, cheap, highly tunable and no complicated/expensive ECU ignition/injection systems to go wrong, just slap some twin carbs and an exaust and manifold and away you go.
