Turbo problem on Astra G 2.0 DI 16v Club

    Hi,

I have been recommended to ask you guys from a mate at work who is a member on here (don't know his username).

I have a problem with my 2.0 Astra diesel. Intermittently the Turbo cuts out and the engine management light comes on. If I put my foot down sometimes the light will go off and turbo work again, seems very intermittent.

On a journey of 30 mins it may happen 8-10 times. I have got a friend who is a mechanic to plug the diagnostic machine in with error code PO400. He cannot work it out and neither can I.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Many thanks in advance!

Locate the EGR valve - check for any split hoses, remove the valve, clean it with carb cleaner, reassemble then try it.

Check the wiring in the multiplug hasnt come free at all, the valve could be faulty and a replacement required but first of all try the above....

If it cures the problem then great - but if it only cures it temporarily then a replacement unit will be required Im afraid.

Do you know what engine code you have? Year of vehicle etc?

I have had that out and cleaned it and everything you said already but still no joy.

The engine is X20DTL, 1999 Astra G. It seems worse now, the engine management is on permantly from the word go and is stuck in get you home mode.

    Any other suggestions?

    Andrew

If the code is still there for the EGR then perhaps changing for a new one is required - they don't often do well from cleaning, mine (petrol engine) was cleaned and within a fortnight it failed completely.
