A question regarding buying tax online

Yesterday I paid online for my car tax and it said it'd start from the 1st of May but I wont get my new tax disc until monday or tuesday.

Am I allowed to drive my car or do I have to wait until it arrives? If I had number plate recognition done on my car then would it appear on the computers that it was taxed?

Print your receipt off and carry that until you have the disc...

    yarp, what coo says.

At the end of the day, the VOSA vans that scan your plates wont flag it because they'll know you've bought one, but make sure you keep the receipt with you regardless

i had this querie when i passed my test, wanted ot get the car on the road ASAP and i wanted to buy my tax onlin because my insurance papers wernt through, and i wanted to dirve it straight away. i rang the VOSA helpline or somethinl like that, and was told regardless of whether i am the owner of tax for the vehicle, if i am not displaying the disc, i would have still been liable for a fine. i personally wouldnt risk it. if a copper walked past your car in a car park, and noticed you wasn't displaying an up-tp-date tax disc they have every right to give you a fixed penalty and i suppose go as far as having your vehicle clamped/removed/crushed

I wouldnt do it, i waited...

defo an offence not to display a tax disc whether its taxed or not. Very quick usually when bought online - 2 days tops.
