£1,300 for my service from Vauxhall

I have a 2001 Turbo Coupe with 120,000 miles on it, have owned it since it was one year old and although I love the car I think it might be time to get rid of it.

Just put it into Vauxhall and they want £1,300 to do all of the work required.

    Replacement cambelt and tensioner
New brake discs, pads and sensor wires
Fixing an oil leak from Turbo (needs a new clip and hose)
    Flushing of coolant system
    Change of brake fluid
And normal 120,000 mile service + MOT

Is this a reasonable price? In some doubt now as to wether I should keep the car or sell it at a knocked down price.

Its a shame because I do still love the car and it drives nice. But that money is almost half the value of the car.

Any thoughts or advice? They cant do the work today anyway as they have none of the required parts in stock.

    how much

if i was u m8, find a gd mechanic and get them to fit parts(or ask someone on ere,to fit parts for some beer tokens) also ask on here anyone with trade club if they could get the parts needed(discs, pads), again will save u cash

i also buy my oil n filters via trade club, and that saves me money too.

    thats a ridiculous price imo

first things first dont take it to vauxhall !!! they charge stupid labour prices , if you shop around im gussing you could allmost get it half that price

where abouts are you based ,if you are near me i have a mate who does repairs pretty cheap .. dont save much on parts but labour is alot better

hes just done a full engine service on my car pluss all 4 pads and dics (general GM) for £400 quid that includes coolant change and brake fluid change so only extra would be cambelt change which i think he charges about 70 + parts

but defantly cheaper places than vaux

    Based in Weybridge, Surrey.

I think I will look to get it done elsewhere. Don't really know of any decent mechanics locally.

If anyone knows anyone near'ish to me and would like the work then I am happy to take it elsewhere.

Am not going to let Vauxhall do it, just too expensive, can't afford it really.

if u want to fit genuine vaux parts(which i reccomend) then for instance

discs are £98 plus vat trade club price, compared to £160 retail(both plus vat)
pads are £14 cheaper with trade club.

typical example i bought 4x5l synthetic oil from vaux, trade club price was £68, if i bought same oil as joe public price would have been £190

im sure there are ppl on here that will help.

the only gd thing about a vauxhall service is the stamp imo

try places like autovaux or lmf for poarts, lot cheaper than vaux 4 sure

is that for 4 or each or for 2 as my mate got discs and pads for £75inc vat for 2x so 150 for all 4 which i thought was not that bad for discs and pads

set of 2 m8, turbo discs are 308mm iirc. or they are some gd discs on egay grooved and drilled for round £80 iirc

think 2.2 are 280mm iirc, u can get a complete 2.2 front disc and pad set for £47 plus vat via TC card from vaux,. so hell of a lot cheaper, lol
