Question for all those with coilovers!!!

Right then....... quite simple request really

    Who has coilovers?

    What make/model?

    What price?

    Where from?

    Whats your verdict on them?

    Maxium drop achievable?

Preferrably Mk4 owners but if its on another model then it could be helpful too.

Mine are FK's, height adjustable, but not damper.

Think they go from 35-70mm. I normally have the rears set almost as low as they go, and on 18's that puts the tyre into the arch.
The fronts are only set about halfway, and you can just get a finger between tyre and arch, but will go stupidly low. Just wouldn't be able to get the trolley jack back out

I really like the ride they give, but have never used another set of springs or dampers apart from standard ones. So not got anything to compare with.

I have coilovers on my coupe turbo. I've got FK highsport coilovers and had them for about 3 years. Paid about £450 for them. Max drop i've measured is about 40mm on the rear (although thats debatable from what other users say) Would say the front could go down 80mm in total

My verdict is that they are far to harsh for the roads round here and if I was to buy a set again i'd seriously think against it. Give it a smooth bit of road with some bends and it really does give you confidence though

What price are we looking at? are the FKs the ones that suffered from corrosion?

Not sure if I can stretch to KWs but might if the price is right.

If anyone has pics of a mk4 slammed on coilies then please post up as I need an idea of how low they can go.

Im thinking I want a fairly hard setup to make the most of the mods and bring all the other components together....defo getting coilovers but just not sure which ones.....budget will be £500 ish

    thanks for the pic Andy

    very promising start.

My rear sits far too low at present (about 60mm) so think these should be a good investment - front currently is about 55mm so these should offer even more adjustability.

Can anyone else recommend any other brands in the same league as FK just to give some other options to consider.

How can the corrosion be combatted? Any tips to prevent the onset of corrosion

I managed to adjust my rears the other day will little trouble, bit of WD40 and they were pretty easy to move
You could keep them coated in copper grease or something similar. Would need topping up though, depends how much the corrosion bothers you, and if your going to be adjusting the height of them every week or not. FK also do the silverline range, which AFAIK aren't meant to corrode, don't know if thats the case or not though.

Probably still 5mm left in the rears, and loads in the front.

A idea what they are like after 3 years

You get oil for the threads but I guess you have to use it regularly to stop this

I had koni dampening adjustable coilovers and they were superb. ride and handling were second to none. only flaw being the rears were none adjustable but I brought fk adjustble spring seats and springs and it made the setup perfect.

Konis are usally 6-700 I think plus another £150 for the springs and seats

    KW Variant 2 here
    Absolutely loving it!

Nice balance between ride quality and handling. Stainless steel construction so won't rust like the older FK coilovers. The only down side is the car needs to be jacked up to adjust height (wheels can stay on though).

Variant 1 whole kit can be bought for about 650-ish I think. Variant 2 is about 900.

Both front and rear are adjustable.
