    Question Towbar Electrics help please

I am fitting a Bosal Towbar to my 57 1.6 SXI Astra Hatch bought from Towequipe. Metalwork no problem but wondering if there is a "good " way to connect the wires. I have the "Universal" By Pass Relay Kit which requires a wire to be run from the battery. Does anybody know if there is a live feed available with all the fuses behind the nearside flap in the boot? Or even if there is wiring in place for a towbar.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Glenn

PS My other car is a Triumph Spitfire, Mk II!

    Welcome Glenn

As your probably finding out the wiring on the Astra H is nothing like the wiring on your old Triumph, bring back the old days I say

There is indeed a couple of large permement lives the go from the battery to the rear fuse box that you could connect onto. I'd always recomend soldering the wires

I'm not clued up on how the tow bar electrics work on newer can bus cars but Glenn mentioned he needs a live from the battery for by pass relay kit, I would guess that over comes any problems

    Towbar Electric's

Many thanks to Jason and Autosparks! I will definately look into soldering the connections, just got to find the iron!. Look forward to the response to Jason's question.

Re Live feeds to the Fuses, can you supply any info as to location/which one? Or should I just buy a Haynes Manual? This is my Bank Holiday Monday task.

Re Spitfire, should be going on a run in the Spifire today with the Triumph Sporting Six Club to Holker Hall. Its pouring down here in Preston and the Electric's dont like the wet!!! So the Astra will get a day out.

    Regards

You can't miss the 2 large permament lives that go from the battery to the rear fuse box, they are about 8 guage in size

As far as i know if you fit a towbar to a mk5 and use the vx wiring kit which will plug in to the harness on the car, it then has be tech 2'd to make the wiring 'live'.

    Towbar Electrics

More questions! I have a version A Fuse box in the luggage compartment. I beleive I have cut the wire to Fuse 3 "Luggage Compartment Socket". Does anybody know what this is for or where it goes? I did find a loose Red Wire strapped to the harness below the fusebox but this was dead. Not cut into the Indicator wires yet, rain stopped play! Does anybody know if the car has a "common brake/tail or Fog/tail lead"? (Changes the connections to the By Pass Relay).

    Regards

    Glenn
