    Quote Comparisons... some opinions?

Are the three best quotes I've got so far for my lil 1.6 16v mk3 REALLY that good..?

the car's my 1.6 16v Sport. valued at £600, 4yrs NCB, 23yo, unmodified, no claims/convictions/accidents etc. First off, as I always do, I got a variety of quotes through Tesco Compare and through Confused.com, and I'm now at the stage of doing the ringing round to see what comes out cheapest...

The best three so far are:
    • Tesco £297.70 (£264.60 + £23.10 Legal Cover) Excess = £450
    • Norwich Union £325.00 (£305 + £20 L/C) with £25<£75 cashback once taken out (therefore £250 < £300) Excess = £320
    • Post Office £361.98 (£337.98 + £24 L/C) with £50 cashback once taken out. (therefore £311.98) Excess = £150

now, having just rung Adrian Flux (to see about AOC discount) and The AA (who are my current insurers) they have both turned round straight away (when I told them my best three quotes) that they wouldn't be able to compete, so wouldn't bother going through my details etc... WTF? I thought AF would be one of the cheapest and yet they say they can't go anywhere near those prices..! Are the three quotes I've got so far (bearing in mind they were some of the first I got) really that great that no-one else can compete?

    well further to the above...

I have just had a cracker of a quote from Churchill's of all people!! £284.55 including legal cover and courtesy car!!

needless to say I just took it out and paid in full before they change their mind

still leaves me with the question - why would someone like Adrian Flux offer a discount to an Owner's Club, if they are only competitive for modified cars..? don't get me wrong, AF were by far and away cheapest for my first two years insurance, but since then I've yet to even have someone quote me within £100 of the top three quotes

maybe its just me - they don't like the fact I live less than 30mins down the road from them

AF are a specialist insurance company, so are very competitive for modded cars etc, but this means sometimes they're not quite so competitive for standard cars

AF are brokers though - so they go everywhere... I've had quotes through them that have had me insured by everyone from Bell Direct through to Fortis, Highpoint, and others... on standard (unmodded) cars. only once have I had a car thats been modified - and that was my Pug, which ironically enough didn't get insured through AF.

never mind though, I know they give great customer servce and they're usually competitive, I just wondered why not this time when I'm finally getting to the age where I'm not so young anymore (in comparison to 17yo's just starting out!) and I've got a few years NCB
