Help needed with a mpg question please!

I have recently purchased a 2006 Astra Sporthatch 1.9 CDTi (150bhp) and at the moment, despite driving it very carefully (no really!) i'm very surprised at the mpg i'm getting. I very rarely rev it above 2-2.5k but i'm still only averaging 39mpg and struggling to get 450miles from a full tank of diesel.
This sounds awefully low to me, and i was just wondering what kind of fuel returns other owners are getting.

    Any ideas?

About the same as I'm getting - anything between 420 and 600 miles, but normally it's about 450/460.

I've found the fuel consumption doesn't really change unless I'm doing absolutely no town driving - it's that which kills my economy as I do a 40 minute 25 mile commute, which is half town and half motorway.

That what I got as well when I was driving the MK5. My 1.6 MK4 does nearly the same mileage. (Happy days )

It was (supposedly) serviced 2 months ago by the garage i bought the car from.
i already got them to check the ecu but they claim it was showing no error codes (what a surprise!)
