    Unhappy Cambelt Change

Just rang vauxhall(greenhous) to get a price on the parts for a service and a cambelt.

Do i need a tensioner and pulley?

The cambelt will cost £40 and the tensioner and pulley will cost £100

No problems. Tensioner is always a good idea, more often than not they die before the belt is due the next time. While the side's off the engine is probably worth doing.

if your plannin on getting your cambelt changed might as well get the cambelt kit, plus might as well get them too replace the waterpump to as they need to take this off to do the cambelt. I ended up getting the parts trade and then vauxhal to fit them which came back at 103 squid labour. Getting it all done thorugh vauxhall all the quotes i got were around 330ish

well they said they dont do a kit, the cambelt is £45 with vat and for the tensioner and pulley would be £93 with vat.

So I need the pulley aswell then?

Found the part number for a 1.7dti not cdti though, might be worth ringing round a few just to make sure though as theres a kit for just about every other model that has a belt. Best to get it all changed as putting new parts might put more strain on the older parts causing them to fail.

If the car is out of warranty you're best going to an independant Vauxhall specialist. Ask in your regional forum who people recommend. Cheaper parts and cheaper labour.
