    revving high

i have a 2.0 astra sport mk3 when i start the car it'll rev at 1100 and stays at this. when driving as i approach the lights etc or slow considerably car revs to nearly 2000 dropping to 1100 sometimes, at others it will cut out but starts straight away with a turn of the key............. i am thinking it could be clocks or fuel sender unit , can anyone give me any further advice on this? thanks phil

could be the throttle body or idle control valve (if it has one) give them a clean with carb cleaner

mine has exactly the same problem, as i change down gears or reverse, it shoots up the revs, and when it idles over 1000rpm, i can take my foot off the clutch and it rolls forward! i can get it into 3rd before having to apply the accelerator!

I have this too. It immediately started after I 'cleaned' the ICV. I alos cleaned out breathers and the throttle body.
Only other thing I did was change the HT leads.
I was given another ICV to try but the ICV wasn't guaranteed working as it had been removed from an old car and I still have the problem but now even worse than my original. I'm going down a scrappy tomorrow to see if I can get another one.
I replaced the MAF and that made no difference (so I have one for sale if anyone's interested).
Throttle body has been properly set up too so I think it could be I have had 2 duff ICVs.

make sure the throttle cable is not too tight. There is a little screw on the throttle pedal that alters the free play in the cable. It must have a tiny bit of freeplay when the pedal is up

Definitely was the ICV one mine. I got one from the scrappy, instantly cured the high idling but then left me with stalling on tickover.
A quick carbclean later and bob's your uncle.
