    After-market remote kit

Hi guys. Just wondering how easy it would be to fit one of these 'after-market' remote central locking kits? And if anyone could suggest one or has had experience in fitting one before.

I've got a 3DR MK3 'Sport', and remote locking would be a nifty feature I wouldn't mind adding!

    Cheers,

Do you have locking in the first place or will you be starting from scratch?

Sorry should have said! I currently have central locking on both doors/boot, which can be operated using the key in the door. I also have a transponder in my key

It will be easy to add a remote to it then with one of the kits off ebay. Get one without all the servo's as I don't believe they will work

Oh right okay then. Do I just bolt the solenoid-type things onto my doorlocks, or what? *Scans ebay quickly*

No you would get one without the solenoids as your car already has them. Something like THIS

Any idea on who I could throw some monies at to fit 'em? I'm a complete 'tard when it comes to stuff like this Or is it really REALLY easy? (e.g just a case of popping some wires in here + there).

For me it really is easy.....

If you know how to use or have a basic test light or multimeter I could give you a step by step guide on how to do it.

Everything would be done in the passenger kickpanel

Oh, really? Yeah, I have access to those. I work in an electronics factory :-)

So I won't even have to take my door card(s) off then?!

Nope all the wires are in the car

Briefly (this will make more sense when you get a kit) the car uses negative pulse type locking so you will need to earth 3 wires from the unit you get. There will then be a wire to connect to the lock wire which is a brown/red on your car, a wire to connect to the unlock wire which is a brown/white on your car and a live wire to connect up to a red wire on your car. With the glove box and side trim that goes along the sill you will be able to see some wiring going out a grommet on the side of the inside of the car where it then goes on into the door, this is where you need to connect the wires

You will then be left with 2 indicator wires probably that need to connect onto the main wiring that runs along the sill, these wires on the car are black/white and black/green

    1 hours work max
