    Trucks.... quick?!

I've no idea where this should go, but i'd thought it best be in chat!

anyways has anyone realised that, recently, its becoming seemingly difficult to over take trucks WHEN obeying the speed limit (70mph)

cause i've always thought that they were limited to 50-60mph, but recently i've happily sat behind a truck doing 70mph without catching up My missus thinks the same too lol

Not really what you're asking, but i remember vividly how i tried to gun past a Truck without its trailer in my old 1.4 Mk3 up the A38 hill just the other side of Derby towards the M1 (locals will know where i mean i'm sure) and had to watch in disgust as it wasted me with him laughing his tits off!

    haha.

they have a tachograph which records what speed there doing at the correct time, and they have to keep all there tacho's from the last 2 weeks on them if they get stopped.afaik.

but everything electrical has a fuse that can be taken out

there designed to pull trailers of 40 tonnes plus at a reasonable speed, so when its not got a trailer thats a hell of a weight loss, alot of them would "do" most cars empty or without trailer

As said above thes guys have restrictions on them and yes they can pull a fuse, but its still logged into graph if they have one in. Irish trucks aint and would out gun most cars with out a traler!!
These tacho's are also checked regularly too unlike "our" speedo's!! It is possible that your speedo is not reading correctly, like alot of cars!!

Most do sit at 56, and the odd time when I'm lazy I'll sit behind a queue of trucks on the motorway and set the cruise control. Yet you always seem to get one truck that'll barge on past.

Some trucks will have oodles of power - I'd reckon many push well over 400bhp as they normally, as mentioned, pull heavy trailers. Take the trailer away and that's probably more bhp per ton than some of the mid-range cars on here

Most tractor units are around the 400hp mark, though they rev out at 1500rpm. Cruising revs are about 1100rpm.
