Hi, I have a '94 Astra and at times it won't find reverse, I lift and push it across and it engages first.
I have tried double-declutching and it makes no difference.
It will find reverse eventually, some mornings it will go straight in, other days it can take 8 - 9 attempts.
My local garage have taken it apart and say the selector brushes have disintegrated.
They say it needs a new selector assembly (?) as the brushes can't be done on my own.
They are quoting about £200 to supply and fit.
Otherwise the car has 115,000 on the clock and has run fine for the last 2 years.
Do you think their diagnosis is right and will fix it, or could I be wasting the money?
