big brake conversion info required on astra type front brakes

hi first the good stuff the car in question is a 96 lotus elan m100 s2 .
this comes as std with mkk2 astra gte front brake discs and calipers from a reg nova..
so in the stock form the braking was pants.
so i tore these off and fitted some moddified fiat coupe front discs.
the disc started life as a 304mm/28mm vented item.
i had it turned down to 300mm /26mm
the calipers are from a 5stud vectra posibly a turbo. these just fit over these discs and under the wheels 16" (just).

But im finding the calipers have a tendency to turn in resulting in the inner edge of the outside face of the brake disc being unswept and the outer edge of the inside face of the brake disc being unswept (rusty throu lack of contact).
anyideas why this would happen ?
maybe i need to space the calapers into the car a little more using washers ?

i am curently running these pads they if sweeping level would swwep from 2mm of the outer edge down to a 15mm sweep inside the braking surface of the brake disc i would preff to run slightly smaller pads to be honest.
