If it's not leaking, then it's burning. You don't need plooms of blue to have an engine burn oil.

Only other suggestion is someone is stealing it out of your sump...

Mine does the same m8 and has done ever since i have had it, nothing goes wrong, it runs fine so just keep topping it up, costs me a fortune in oil every year lol.

How many miles do you do a week.

I think that the consumption guide is about 0.35 litre to 1,000 kms.

If it is more excessive then the only way to fix it is to find out why it uses it. Either by finding the leak or taking the block apart to check for ware etc.

Do you have any mayo in the header tank? That is often a sure fire sign of oil contamination.

My X18XE1 used about 0.25 litre in 6,000 miles - I never topped it up in 98,000 miles!

Vauxhall's limit of acceptability when under warranty was 1 litre per 1,000 miles.

If it's not leaking it's probably not economic to fix it - just keep topping up the oil, it'll be a lot cheaper than an engine rebuild.

I use 10-40w fully synthetic oil in mine, its the oil that has been used throughout the cars life so im not going to change it, £12 for 2 litres in tesco for castrol GTX Magantec and I need to put about 1 litre in every 4 or 5 months or so which would be about 4500 - 6000 miles at a rough estimate.

I only have experience of one X18XE1 - bought new, carefully run in, oil & filter changed every 6,000 miles over 98,000 miles total using Mobil 1 0W-40.

Result? Negligible oil consumption, virtually zero emissions and still running sweeter than when delivered.

Most "enthusiasts" will recommend 10W-40 part-synthetic - it's cheap in the short term.
