    MOT tyre advice

I have my MOT booked for tuesday so today i decided to give the car a going over just to see if i think it might fail on anything, Everything is fine apart from one of the rear tyres it has a huge bulge on the tyre wall on the inside so i have put the spare steel wheel on that side, But i cant get a new tyre put on alloy till friday so what i want to know is can my car pass the mot on the spare steel wheel? The coupe wheels are 215 40 r17 and the spare steel is 205 50 r16

    cheers

    daz

Think that will be a no. All wheels on the same axle have to be the same.

As that's the standard spare size for a coupe with 17" standard alloys no reason why it should fail - as long as you don't leave the faulty tyre in the boot.

If fitted on to the car, the spare wheel/tyre must be the same size etc as the other tyre on the same axel. If not fitted ,the spare tyre is not part of the MOT.

"If fitted on to the car, the spare wheel/tyre must be the same size etc as the other tyre on the same axel."

In that case all spacesaver wheels must be illegal

"If not fitted ,the spare tyre is not part of the MOT."

Incorrect, if you have a spare tyre in or on the car it is part of the mot

If the spare tyre is not being used, it is not part of the MOT.
