changes to the forum over the years

Is it just me or has this forum changed quite a bit recently ?

It seems like its being run like a dictatorship at times

Nothing like the forum I joined a long time ago

Seems to be these days that when you view an opinion not liked by admin its deleted or locked

But if they feel the need to say their bit its then added and locked again

Pity as I did used to enjoy using this place when it was laid back

No doubt this will be deleted or locked too though

i think certain aspects have become more heavyhanded, I agree. maybe thats due to the increasing size of the club, but I don't know.

you've been on here a lot longer than I have Craig, so I can only comment on the last 18mths since I've been a user and approx 6-9 mths before that when I was browsing unregistered. but there seems to have been a shift, judging by the amount of posts like this one that there have been since we became AOC..
    NOW - Sapphire Black 3dr Astra G

    THEN - Glacier White 2.0Di Estate - 136bhp 1.6 Pineapple Yellow Mk3 - Flame Red 2.0Di Van - Chianti Red 1.8 Coupe - Star Silver 2.2 Zafira - Flame Red 2.2 Linea Rossa Coupe - Titan Gold 1.8 Coupe

9 Years, 7 Astras, 1 Zafira, No Regrets.

In a sense I suppose AOC has become a slight victim of it's own success. The move from 'just' a forum to a club has probably sparked tighter rules and more responsibilities and because the forum has been going for so long now there are members who have formed good friendships which can make the forum seem a little cliquey at times.

But I think thats pretty much to be expected, it's still an excellent forum.

Craig I am sorry but your not going to like this reply from me and what will make it worse is that you take it personally without seeing the difficulties I/anyone that helps run this forum on a day to day basis has to deal with.

Keeping everyone happy is never going to happen thats a simple FACT. Making every person feel included in all aspect in every post, again a simple FACT. People being friends and making plans being involved in each others lives again a simple FACT of life.

Sadly there is another simple FACT and thats the kind of people that find fault, cause trouble and pick arguments just to see how the person will react to it and then post a thread to say 'look how the forum has changed' your not the only one that does it, in fact you have helped the forum loads in the past - but there are a good hand full of members that love to rock the boat for the sake of a reaction

    Has the forum changed?

    Yes it has

    Why has it changed?

Because all things change when they get more serious, its very easy to have a small forum/community and let anything and everything go and not worry about the implications because more than likely it will never be noticed. When forums get larger the responsibility grows as well. For example in the last 2 years I have dealt with:

The police twice - 1 x problem seller, 1 x threanting behavior on a baby

10+ times threatening behavior to another member

    2 x racist comments

    5 x serious bad sellers

Countless porn links and other associated threads that could cause distress for another member be it from 16-70 years of age and what ever subject matter that maybe.

When we launched AOC we wanted it to be for all the family and for all ages. We will not be bullied into changing that opinion just because it ruins your fun. You may have noticed that over the last 3-4 months we have been a lot more lax in the closing of threads in Chit chat, we have done this to make things less strict (not that they are anyhow!).

We dont want to take the fun away and I dont think we have at all, and when it comes down to it Craig (and the reason you have posted this thread) is Steve was more than entitled to close his own thread, as are any members that want there thread closing. (The main reason threads are closed in fact!).

As for clique's - I find this one of the most ridiculous stupid observations when it comes to forums. Of course you are going to get friends that talk to each other and off course they will share secrets, its human nature! If you are not apart of it does it matter? Does it really bother you what car plans someone has and another member knows? Do you really sit there getting wound up and feel the need to post sarcastic replies back knowing the reaction it will make? Then moan the thread was closed but you caused it in the first place!

If you answer yes to any of them I think you should look at yourself before you look at this forum quite frankly What makes this even funnier is that in the particular thread that has caused you to post your above questions, the only person that knew about the ideas (probably even throw away ideas) was the people involved Byron and Steve. I sent Steve a PM last night just simple ASKING what the ideas were - I got the reply this morning. So there is no clique, no special winks, no secret hand shake and dont worry your not missing out!

I think you are good bloke Craig and I enjoy spending time with you, but what bothers me is that you always look at this forum with a view that its against you, you never think about the other persons view point, and you possibly not knowingly rub people up the wrong way.

    Last key points to remember:

'this will get locked anyway' - comments like this often dont help and are fairly stupid. If its the type of thread that could go bad then yes your right it could get locked (iirc you said that about the regal thread not long ago).

If you have problems with the way the forum is run please feel free to tell us but have some info to back it up. For example please supply links with examples of 'dictatorship' happening and threads that are closed for no apparent reason. I will galdly explain our actions for each example that you give.

If you dont like the forum you dont have to use it. It really is as simple as that.

    and most importantly.

If you think that I will stand back and let you stir trouble with these style threads and expect me not to stick up for this club, its team, its members, and the community as a whole you are very much mistaken - I have every right to have my say as do you.

I wont be back online now until latter this afternoon so I will reply to any questions when I get back.

This is a very popular forum, and the more popular it becomes (like any board) the more the admin and mod team need to work to weed out the problems. It really is no mean feat what the admin and moderation teams do on a day to day basis in the background, so from someone on the outside of that team looking in, it may appear things happen for no reason other that to annoy people - trust me when I say everything that happens on this board happens for a reason.

If you want somewhere to speak freely with no moderation, try Bebo or Facebook. You can write whatever shite you want on there.

If you like or don't what Craig has said he does have the freedom to make his comments here when it concerns this forum/club. Facebook and Bebo are not relevent to the comments made in my opinion.

I think the forum has changed over the past 3 and a half years while I have been posting, but then so have a lot of users so it's no suprise really.

The only things that annoys me are when people appear to gang up on some one else....some times it's my perception, but can it be all the time. Also when people think it's acceptable to expect to copy the work of the tuning companies, who like it or not give us the ability to continue to modify our cars and therefore is the bread and butter behind this club's very existance.

Any way, it's only a club that is based around a car that I own so I don't attach too much value to comments made here, life has far more important things to attend to!

I hope the forum continues to flourish and grow, but remember the consequences of what you post!
Tell me what you've done, not what you're going to!

    Agreed craig.

Ive seen a change. Mat knows my feeling towards this.

My gripe is i simply admitted to doing somthing that was wrong and I put my hands up,yes admin say i was putting the team into jeopardy due to classified information, fair enough i was punished for that with a profile warning...i suppose i was acuused of making a mountain out of a molehill, i disagree with this because there are others in the club team who have done exactly the same, but i was put into a single file and made an example of to the team.

secondly i was accused just last week of doing the same thing once again,no questions asked...only a accusation..i was guilty until proven innocent, once i proved to be innocent,no apology form admin, nothing. apparently Coo knew about this but it seems that admin are lacking interaction with one another, admin now seem to think they can treat members on here as a number and none of us have feelings.

your very wrong and i will be bitter towards astra sport for a very long time.

why do you think i dont post anymore.

I didn't intend to appear hostile towards Craig, I totally respect his opinion. Poor choice of words in the Bebo/Facebook sentence perhaps.
