Very hard to say without finding out what the fault codes are, your best off getting them on a tech 2 machine, only advice I can give you is when the airflow meter is playing up it will bring the spanner light on or the traction control light on so it probably won't be that.

Airflow meter fault should bring on the EML, not spanner light, as it's a sensor that'll effect emissions/catalyst. If the AFM has a re-occuring fault i'd say you'd definately suffer some sort of rough/poor running, as ECM can no longer measure air intake to the engine and has to revert to preset basic values. Tech 2 test definately the way to go.

afm fault always brought on eml and then spanner light. had this happen a few times wen the numpty over oiled a filter and killed 5 afm's until i discovered what it was
