    astra mk4 alarm query

with respect can someone give me correct advice. i can lock my car with the key without any problem but when i unlock with the key and then open the door the alarm goes off, i then disarm by pressing remote button or insert key into ignition.

Is there an entry delay before i can open the door?

Or is not possible to gain entry by using the key?

Does the alarm always arm when you lock or only when dead locking??

it arms when you lock the car. Deadlocking is just an additional feature. Try unlocking with the key but doing the unlock motion twice. According to the manual 1 is for deadlocking and the other is for the alarm.

Just out of intrest, why unlock with the key if the remote works?

There's' no need to start another thread for exactly the same question as it just causes confusion - so I've merged and tidied it

I'll also shift it to the electrical section, where our techie bods should be able to shed some light ion it

No the alarm does not turn off via the door barrel as the alarm would be useless if the lock was punched hence why it only turns off via the ignition, a delay only gives a thief time to do what they need to do, hence why it goes off straight away

The alarm will arm via the remote or by locking the car with the key in the door, doesn't matter if it;s deadlocked or not the alarm will still be on

As you have found out though the alarm will only disarm with the remote or the key in the ignition where it sees the transponder signal from the key. Having it disarm by the key barrel would be stupid knowing what a weak point it can be on the car

Your alarm seems to be functioning perfectly - to Thatcham 1 standards.

The ONLY times you need to unlock using the key, thus setting the alarm off when you get in, are :-

flat battery in keyfob (fit new £1.50 battery)

    unsynchronised keyfob (just synchronize it)

RF interference from nearby buildings (park somewhere else next time).
