    Astra's fun to drive

spent a couple of days last week driving a mk4 golf TDI, and what can i say

yes its a lot smoother, faster, quiter and more comfortable than my car, but my cars actually a lot more fun to drive, the golf was a little boring, i really enjoy driving the astra a lot more even tho its completely beaten by the golf on paper,

anyone else drove a "better" car but still prefer their astra?

    Yeah there are better cars.

But I'm yet to find one that puts a smile on my chops like my astra does even though its got about as much BHP as my cat.
    Its a jam thing

I wouldn't really describe it as 'fun' to drive, but it's certainly good to drive.

Back in the day when they first came out they were awesome in comparison the the Escorts, MK3 Astra etc. that preeceeded them, however in standard form they are basically a mass-produced family cars which arent greatly inspiring at times, hwoever they have potential and modified they are certainly far improved.

I used to totally adore my Astra, however when I got my last company car which was a Mazda 6 Sport it made me realise how poorly built the mk4 Astra is. My next company car is going to be either VW/Audi/BMW so I expect to feel even more of a difference.

Considering the Mk4 is now a 10 year old car (12 year design), they do OK. But really, they're just crap compared to a Mk5 Astra, Mk5 Golf, and totally laughable compared to even the Mk1 Focus.

My friend has a Golf Tdi mk4 and it drives similar to my mk4 Astra.. prefer the Astra. But drove a rental 57 plate focus a few months back and thought that was "fun" to drive. I use that term loosely, for a standard setup car it handled very well and the Astra is no where as throwable in corners as the Focus. Just seemed more responsive on the road even though it was a 1.6!
