does anyone know if te genaration 1 rack and pump could be easily replaced with a genartation 2 rack and pump?
yes - afterall thats what Vx did to a lot of Gen1 equipped cars in approx 2000
You'll need the full kit tho to transfer - fairly sure Gen1 dont fit onto Gen2 racks etc - i enquired a few yrs ago at Vx
if u have a knackered Gen1 pump - and not rare to say the least Id personally recommend a fully reconditioned unit from bba.reman for about £200 - 2yr peace of mind
Theres cheapies avail on the bay but u get no back up and really not worth it with a known troubled part like the Gen1 units.
that's for the info reason i ask is im currently selling on ebay a complete gen 2 rack and pump unit, and have been asked a few times if the can remove the gen 1 rack and pump and replace it with my gen 2 rack and pump with no problems like wiring etc.?
yeah, wiring is the same - its just the physical parts that are different - ie gen1 pump must be fitted to gen1 rack etc etc .... the only wiring involved in the whole equation is the earth point on the left wing and the fuseholder that slots in the fusebox.
Any idea what ur putting it up for?
I personally bought a Gen2 about 2 yrs ago for £30 and sold it for £150 to a reconditioning specialist..... seem to be goin for various prices these days.
Good luck with the sale though.
will replace either Gen1, Gen2 or even Delphi systems.
I think ur price is also too low!
Id change it to £250 or best offer ... u need to try and appeal to those with the dodgy Gen1 setups and convince them theyre getting a great deal with a Gen2 and therefore the improved design.
