    Fitted HID Upgrade Bulbs

    Hey

Sorry i sound like such a noob but doesnt anyone know it i just put in this bulbs in my own headlights?
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-ASTRA...QQcmdZViewItem

Or do i need to purchase a set for fitting them?

Hope you understand what i mean! I want to upgrade to HID as ive been hearing such good reports and i cant change my headlights yet so i was just simply going to upgrade them to HID's.

    Thanks.

that link is just normal bulbs with a daft blue coating to make it look like u have pukka HIDs - it'll be a straight forward swap of your existing bulbs.

No need to upgrade your headlamps themselves....u dont even need to upgrade the lamps if ur fitting proper HID conversion kits.

Either pay £20 for a cheapie set like above ....or pay £45 for a proper conversion kit and convert ur dipped beam to HID and then maybe consider ur main beam at a later date.

    Each to their own though.

when u say full set do u mean full set of full on HIDs ie a HID conversion in both beams?

or do u just want HID-look bulbs?

If its the first one then youll need a kit for dipped and a kit for main beam

I used to pay £45 for a 35w HID kit & £70 for a 55w kit - Ive found this which is even better.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XENON-HID-CONV...QQcmdZViewItem

£50 delivered and its the full on 55w kit

Youll need 2 kits if u want to upgrade both dipped and main beam (seriously recommend it!) its like daylight!

Just need to select the correct bulb type & colour temperature.

If ur using standard headlights then dipped is H7 & main is HB3/9005 (same thing - just sometimes goes by either code)

Colour temperature wise then I would advise 4300K or 6000K
I used to have 8000K but found it a tad on the blue side.

I now have 6000K dipped & 4300K main.... but if u want ultra visibility I would advise u get both kits in 4300K

Hope this helps and isnt too confusing.

it looks complicated cos it contains extra harnesses that u dont need on the the mk4

look in the how-to section - theres a one for fitting HIDs it really is straight forward

basically all u do is take the plug that currently plugs into the bottom of the brown bulb holder (dipped beam) insert this plug into one of the connections on the ballast pack - the other harness attached to the ballast then runs to the new bulbs.

hide all the ballasts behind the bumper or out of sight and jobs a good un.

obviously a few more bits to do but its all in the how-to

SO i would need to purchase 2 of the same kit? So im looking at 100 quid roughly. I can do all the wiring myself i i get a how To and if i cant ill just seek your friendly advice on here.

I need 2 sets of the same, just different bulb types right?

Do you know if this affects the insurance? As im on my mums policy sharing the car they dont let you make big modifciation with direct line under 25 year olds and im 17 lol

    Thanks man

technically speakin HIDs are illegal in normal headlights..............

that doesnt affect all of us though who run them......

so as far as technicalities go and insurance and ur young age....i wouldnt like to comment.

Personally tho what I would advise is u just get 1 kit to start with - it makes it less complicated tryin to fit 2 kits at same time

do the H7 dipped beam first then once u get used to Xenon performance consider upgrading the main beams too.

It also takes a bit of gettin used to with main beams done and if ur mother is using the car too then maybe just the dipped for now is the best idea.

Theres no wiring to do as such - if u can pull a plug out and push it back in then u can do it yourself!!!! youll need to modify the brown bulb holders but all the info is in the how-to.

Seriously advise just getting one kit for now and see how u get on.

Any questions we'll do our very best to help

Wherabouts are u located? If in doubt Im sure a local member will help u out.

Im located Near london, theres quite a few members i think around my area.

So if i actually fitted even one set then its illegal? My mum wouldnt let me fit them whilst shes driving the car if its illegal lol. Guess ill have to replace the whole set of headlights with HID in there at a later date?
