    Painting then polishing

Right i have had to paint some more parts this weekend, and have base coated the panels now, wet sanded them with 1500 w&d so they are nice and smooth, but they have gone all dull. Do they now need polishing/cutting back with compound etc to get the shine back before they get lacquered ??

I cant be bothered to google

Something like AG Super Resin Polish should do it steve, then laquer it. But don't wax fresh laquer for at least 2 weeks

will the laquer stick to the polish ? i though you flatted it with 1500 the laquered it to give a shine the flatted it between each coat of laquer then polished it after 2 weeks

I personaly wouldnt mop the panels up then lacquer them as you may get a reaction.

BTW the dullness is noraml if youve flatted them, once the lacquer goes on it will shine straight away.

At work we flat back our panels after they have been lacquered if theres any dust got in them and then mop and polish straight away, usualy thats 12 hours after or less after they have come off bake.

on the subject, when my dad's saab gets back from it's restoration (full respray) including all cut back and lacquered etc, how long should I wait before doing anything to protect the new paintwork? I was going to leave it about 2 weeks if possible. Also what is the best way to start off with virgin paintwork in order to protect it best? My dad always used liquid diamond on all his new cars as soon as he got them to protect them and I have to say it worked very very well (the saab had it new and it's taken about 24 years before she's needed any attention to her paintwork and that's only because she was neglected for the last 4 of them) I have liquid diamond anyway but I'm sure something like megs is surely going to be better? What's the best I can do to her to protect her, especially as she's going to have to drive a few hundred miles over to france a few weeks after her restoration is finished.

    Cheers, Kirsty

cheers gaz saab finished today and bringing her home later this afternoon; although I have to wait a week or two before putting any products on as she has to get her side stripes reapplied first, after that I can do her bodywork.
