    Fitted my tuning box

took me just over 2 weeks but ive done my first 1000 miles so thought i can now fit my tuning box,

the box i got was from DTUK and i got it through Andrew888 who kindly offers AOC members a discount which makes the box even more worthwhile

The box was very easy to fit, just unplug old plug and plug in the box and your done, had a quick chat with Andrew to make sure I had the right idea on how to do it got his advice then finished the fitting and went for a drive,

The box i got was the CRD2(9) which has 4 different maps which all can be adjusted from -30% to +30% in 10% increments (adjusted by moving a jumper across the pins) I tired a couple of the maps and found the one i think ill stick with for a while (which was the ABYSS map) and left it on 0% as this was great fun to drive and didnt have any smoke or EM lights, so ill leave it on there for a while see how it gets on then maybe push up the %'s a little.

To drive the car is still as easy and smooth as it was before but with sports mode on the throttle is extremely sensitive which will take a little getting used to, powerwise it is a pretty big difference over standard, I have never seen the TC/ESP light come on until now and when i first put my foot down going up hill in 3rd gear at about 30-40mph and the traction control has to kick in shows the power it has,

compared to my old Z20LET i would honestly say this is a fiar bit quicker at the moment (dont want to get into the debate that this cant be true etc and im sure my ZLET wasnt running its best but still)

So for me driving along knowing i can pull away faster now than with my old Z20LET, my fuel computer saying i average 42.4mpg im a happy boy

So for anyone considering one of these boxes id say go for it, well worth it, and i will try to get it on a RR to get some figures soon to (hopefully) back up my ramblings...

on the company car no probs at all
but on my own car i would Run a remap

open the box up an take a look inside
looks like they could be made with bits from maplin
given they do work but what are they doing to the engine ??

Danny it sounds like you are comparing these tuning boxes to the 5p resistors off ebay!!

fair enough danny thats your opinion, when/if i had the money for a remap from 888 or the like to keep my warranty i will prob get one, then sell the box for a small loss,

over a remap from 90% of companies i have something easily fitted and removed (prob easier than changing maps on a EDS-IPF etc) and keep my warranty (just take it off) also i can sell this to a wide range of different cars when im done, a remap your stuck with forever and have nothing to sell on,

different things for different people imo,

undo one an take a look paul
yes they look nicer then the Ebay chips
but do the same thing more or less ??
what are they doing to the engine map ? not a lot i would say

    stick with a Remap or

    EDS IPF
    BSR PPC

both to flash maps on a hand held tool
you can go back to std in a few mins with them
saab uk even sell the one by Hirsch same unit as BSR

andy i did try one on my vectra 1.9cdti
    it made the car faster
but it also put it into the dealers faster
maybe i had a crap one
might try one out on the 1.7cdti astra H i have at the mo and see if that works on that "company car"
just with my own money I would go to regall or BSR from lmf

Ooooo, a box v remap debate. Boxes fool the engine into upping pressure etc. A bad thing on a already fragile fiat engine. Remap.... can only be better imo. BSR all the way

i dont want a remap vs box debate, thats not what this thread is for,

yes in general a remap is better, but until i want to spend £600 on one which comes with a warranty i wont be touching them,

Why does everyone go on about warrenty... Its not worth the paper its written on and besides they will never know its mapped. I'm with Danny on this one, if I had a company car i'd get the box if not i'd do things right.
