    Question Mobil 1 0W-40 for Mobil 1 5W-50

I've been using Mobil 1 0W-40 since 1000 miles on my Astra Coupe 2.2,I currently have 45000 miles on the clock and have a service in a few weeks.A friend has kindly given me two containers of Mobil 1 5W-50 which I intend to use obviously to save on costs. Should this be ok or would you reccomend staying with the 0W-40..

    Regards.

for an NA engien i would say the 0W 40 is the better choice as it will offer the better protection from cold.
however contrety to popular belief putting 5W 50 will not kill your engine and wont be like tar. it is still offering better protection from cold than the vauxhall recommended 10W40. The SAE 50 means it can with stand higher engine temps and would be recommended if your car is highly tuned or you drive it hard and/or plan quater mile runs/track days.

so from that 5w-50 will be ok but the 0w40 is the better choice
