    40k service

hi guys not sure if this is the right forum but my car is coming up for its 40k service soon so i rang the vx dealer and got a quote of £305 inc VAT she said that this service was one of the main ones ... does anyone know whats done on this service? £305 seem a bit steep to me also do you think its worth going through vx for this service or goto a local garage? thanks very much

sounds like a full timing belt and water pump change to me, this is usually done around 40k
Observe the masses and do the opposite

40k is the main service, they should change the cam belt, water pump??, sparkies, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, and a few more.

40K will be the cam belt as well as the usual oil change and filters etc. make sure you get the water pump done as well.

Mines due it's 40K now as well, I haven't got a quote yet so don't know if that's any good or not.

sorry to hi-jack, i had my belt changed about 5k ago, now up to 37000 on a 02 plate, didnt have the water pump done with the belt as the vxl bloke who done it at his house said it was ok, is this worth doing and how much would the water pump be on its own?

Mike, yes if you drop a 2.2 in there.
Paul - i would have thought that the water pump would have to be changed at the same time, im sure someone will confirm tho.

Water pump doesn't have to be changed with the cam belt although alot on here recomend it

If the water pump did then go you would have to replace the cambelt all over again
