Factory fault on the new astra mp3/cd players?

Hi all, I am posting on behalf of my dad, he's just had a brand new Astra, which has the cd/mp3 player (Grundig). He put a cd I made up for him full of mp3's, which worked fine, the next day he went to listen to these and the cd player said "no disc" so he looked for the cd which he thought he must have taken out, but could not find it, so he put another one in and it still said "no disc" and nothing worked.

Took it back to the dealer they removed both discs with a charge of £42 which they waivered as goodwill gesture and was told it was working perfectly,he asked for an explanation and they said that the player will not recognise all copy discs after the machine is turned off and that the only way to avoid this is to eject the copy before turning off the engine, can anyone tell me if this is true or has experienced this themselves. Thanks

I've not heard of it before and it just sounds like a dealer covering themselves by scaring the customer into removing the disc incase it happens again
