    stitches and open wounds

i had a minor procedeure almost 2 weeks ago now, a ganglion removed from the inside of my wrist. what is really anoying is that im not having the stiches removed untill thursday and i have not been able to swim or do exercise during this time.

my question is, why cant i swim or get stiches wet? its a pain in the arse trying to shower or bath and i usually swim every day of the week, im getting withdrawal symtoms lol.

also, whats the normal activity expected after removal of stiches? anyone know? will i be expected to go back to work within a day of having them out (im a carpenter) so would the skin still be suseptable to tearing for a while? if anyone has any views on this cheers

i should imagine you shouldnt get it wet as the skin softens, and becomes more likely to split/tear the stiches out.

u can bathe it m8 but u cant keep it in water for a prelonged period of time as fourteenhundred said it softens the skin an the can re-tear the wound! also after your stiches are removed take it easy as the scar will be weaker than usuall skint and hard pull or rip will tear it all again and maby worse! after a while use a scar reduction cream alwasy helps! just look after it really!
