    Lucas calipers

    Evening all

Going to be doing a scrapyard run this weekend in search of lucas calipers for me astra mk4 1.4 16v

Was wondering what tools I'll need to remove the calipers off?

I'll be replacing my Bosch ones with these lucas calipers, and is it just a direct replacement or am I going to need to take the carriers off aswell?

Also whilst I'm here, got some pads for the rear in advance, but not sure whether I've got ones for Bosch or lucas calipers really! they're halfords HBP433's I got them on trade for £7 they come with some little clips aswell, and 2 of the pads have hooks attached to them

halfords couldn't find the pads for the lucas calipers when I looked, so I can't help you there, but in terms of what tools needed, it'll be pretty much the same as you'll ned to change discs/pads mate, there's a howto with the exact size allen keys/sockets etc you'll want, but its easy enough.

make sure you get mk4 lucas calipers as fitted between 51-03 plates, rather than ones off a 53 plate onwards, which quite often are mk5 calipers. the differences have been covered before if you look back.

good luck with the hunt mate, if you'd have got in sooner you could have had the lucas calipers off the estate I'm breaking, but I've already sold them now

The pads are for a Bosch rear caliper.

Oh well, I'll get a refund on those pads and get some ordered in at work

Do I need carriers for the Lucas calipers? or do they just go straight on?

    You'll need th carriers too.

Just unbolt the carriers 2 bolts with the caliper in situ (E30 star socket IIRC), unclip the handbrake cable and cut the brake line. Sorted.

^^ as above - althought its a T30 torx bit IIRC.

Having just looked at the receipt I paid £90+VAT for mine from Carquip Specialist Vauxhall Breakers, so came in at a shade under £106. That was for Calipers/Carriers/Pads from a 22k 2002 Coupe Turbo. They were more or less MINT, no sign at all of any rust, and not a lot of dirt on them either, someone had seriously taken care of them! Not sure if that would affect the price at all, but IIWY just for calipers and carriers I'd budget around £90-£100.

A "T" prefix is the bit

An "E" prefix is a socket

You need the socket, so it'll be E30.
