Unhappy Crashed my car this morning...

Typical situation, overtook a RAC van half on half off the road, checked in my rear view I was clear before pulling back in, looked up and the cars infron of me had stopped due to a car pulling into a farm entrance that is hardly ever used.

Split decision time as Im sliding towards the arse of the car in front of me, take it through the trees or hit the car...hmmmmm cars give way, trees dont, so it wasnt a hard choice really!

Not sure what speed I was going TBH, no way over the limit as I had just overtaken a stationary van and was drifting past it. I managed to shunt the fellas car about 12-15 ft, somehow I must have lifted the back of his car, as I have slight damage to my bonnet above my grill, yet the grill and lights are untouched

Anyway, all I could see of his damage was a cracked rear bumper on his 03 reg Accord, but knowing my luck Ive prolly twisted the chassis or something .

All I can say, is thank god for fully comp insurance, and what speed do you have to hit something for you airbags to go off? Mine didnt, and as its my first car with them, I just wondered lol

Right, now for the pics of my poor ickle car

And Im guessing this isnt supposed to be this shape??

Could have been much worse, but still a bummer

Unlucky, at least no one was hurt though.

The crash bar should be straight! So you will need a new one ideally.

Not sure on the airbag question.

Cars can be fixed easier than people glad you're okay! 50mph i've heard, never crashed my mark 4 to 'test' though lol, crashed my mk3 once above 50mph but that didnt have airbags and that was with a tree side on + ditch, which was a write off as you can imagine

Airbags need quite a shunt to go off certainly more than your impact. i have a spare front bumper bar if you want it? Just cover postage and I'll be happy to get you sorted.

If he's in a queue of traffic with his/her foot on the brake once you hit him the action may take his foot off the brake making him travel the distance before he's even found out what happened.

Glad your ok damage doesn't look too bad at all.

Mr insurance company will get the job of this one, its about time I actually got something back after paying all those years of premiums and only getting one subsidised windscreen out of it lol

Bang goes my £200 excess, and maybe a couple of years NCD

hope you get it fixed. I crashed my 2.0 dti into a lampost and looked similar to yours but they wrote it off because it would cost to much to repair

Sorry to hear about the bump, glad your OK though. I'm guessing it's still OK to drive for a while looking at it.
