    egr valve and gasket

    my engine management light came on so i took my car to vauxhall and got the car checked, they said i needed a new egr valve and gasket, but when i got the car the back the light has switched off, what is the egr valve? and do i need to change it?

    Vauxhall proabably cleared the fault code after they had diagnosed it, so thats why the light isn't on anymore

    EGR is Exhaust Gas recirculation. It improves emissions by recirculating some of the exhaust gas back into the cylinder during combustion (AFAIK)

    Best bet is to replace the EGR valve, they can be bought from LMF for around £50 depending on your engine code. There's a how to guide explaining how to replace the EGR valve in the how to section

    It does indeed improve emissions on cruise settings, as NOX would go through the roof with modern AFR's, so EGR uses spent gasses to lower temps below critical point where NOX jumps alarmingly high.
