    Unhappy Desperately Seeking Astra Help

I recently purchased a vauxhall atsra 1.7tdEstate (1999), the car came with no handbook or anything. The problem i'm having is as it came with a standard key, which has no buttons on it, so not sure wether it has central locking, underneath the ash tray theres a small panel missing with two wires coming out of it no idea what these are supposed to operate. Your probably thinking what sort of idiot buys a car without asking these sort of questions. The car was brought for me becasue i was out serving queen and country. Any help would be greatly appreciated tried a Vauxhall dealer about as much help as tits ona fish. One final note what MK is the vehicle going to try and get a owners handbook off ebay.

    1999, is a MK4 (98-04).
Didnt knwo they made a key without buttons!
I Have the Envoy(bottom of the range astra) that even has the button remotes.

To see if the car stil has central locking, try unlocking the car, if all doors unlock, you do.

The 2 plugs under the Ashtray are probably for heated seats, and i beleieve the traction control switch can be plugged in somewhere down there too.

It sounds like you have only been given the spare key. As the the spare key i had for my Mk 4 didnt have the remote buttons.

You should be able to order one from Vauxhall though, not sure how much they would charge you though.

Oh and welcome to the club....get some pics of your car up...its the law for new people

Not all astra's have central locking, unless it's faulty it's probably unlikely you have it on your car

Unscrew the loom connector between door and body, see how many pins are there, as only used holes will be filled with a pin, this will give a you a big clue especially if you don't have lecky mirrors, as will just have two wires/pins for speaker then.

ah, but my car has electric mirrors but no central locking or electric windows and yet i have a key with no buttons, its the bottom of the range model.

my mate car doesnt have anything electric (as in windows, mirrors or central locking) and yet his car is 2 years younger.
