    Air-con

Yeah you did read the title correctly... I said Air-con!!!
    And NO im not mad!!!
We all know how cold it is outside at the mo but im kinda forward thinkin here a bit (freezin winters/boilin summers & global warming ha ha)

So anyway after readin one of yesterdays posts about the Pollen Filter I decided to change mine.... It was mingin!!!

This got me thinkin bout my Air-con?

It aint that cold anymore like it used to be and dont really demist the windscreen properly either!!!
So im outta gas I hear you say??? Maybe im not sure....
When at my Local Vauxhall Stealer today i asked for a price for checkin the gas level and a possible refill.... wait for it....... between £120 & £160 they reckon!!!
I DONT THINK SO SOMEHOW..... THEY MAY AS WELL HAVE BEEN WEARING MASKS AND HAD A GUN TO MY HEAD LOL

So basically i've done a few searches and found a few people have had theirs checked/filled at Kwikfit Garages, some good and some bad....
Im not gonna go to Vauxhall's as they are too expensive but i want a proper job done!!!
I know Halfrauds do an Air-con thingy in a tin but im not too convinced to be honest.

    Anyone got any feedback/suggestions/prices etc....

Most garages will charge about £75 for a AC regass, obvioulsy kwik fit do it cheaper though

IMO steer clear of the halfords AC gas in a bottle as a proper regass will take all your old gas and moisture out the system and put correct amount back in

I'm sure you can get a professional service cheaper than that ... certainly check out your yellow pages

I would agree with Coo, check the yellow pages and you should be able to find an A/C specialist, most of them will come to your house and do the job on the drive. Kwik Fit are very hit and miss, it all depends on how knowledgeable the individual staff member is.

I had a bad experience with kwik sh*t, like lokas said its more the individual that does it than the comapny, but the standards that they seem to train their staff is a lot lower than other garages. I read a few times that quite often fridge repairmen will do the job for a fraction of the price?

had mine done by kwik fit last weekend, they did a realy good job, proper pump out and vacum to remove moisture and refill for only £35, it blows a lot colder now, i think its a case of some of the branches ruining the reputation of the whole chain, i can vouch for the job at the kettering branch in northants, but then thats not much use to you in wales

Thanks for your feedback guys.... think im gonna give kwikshite a miss as they are rough as a badgers arse down my way!!

So today I dug the old Yellow Pages out for a few quotes???

I found a mobile air-con guy that can come to my house or work and sort it out for £50+VAT.
He told me he will take the old gas and moisture out the system, and put the correct amount of pressure back in. He will also pressure test the system for faults and leaks.

Is there anything else I need to look out for, or ask him about when he does it? Cos this sounds like a good deal to me.....

Just gotta wait till pay day now

Sounds good but when it comes to moisture & the windscreen misting up when was the last time you changed your pollen/cabin filter? This can retain dampness when old and dirty, when i took mine out a load of bits of damp leaves came out with it!

If you have enough gas the get the system running then the Kwik fit £45 service is a bargain.

They won't do it though if the compressor won't run.
