Cam Belt / Toothed belt / Ribbed belt

What's the difference between these please? In my service history booklet it mentions Ribbed belt and Toothed belt and tensioning roller but not cam belt. Which of these is like the cam belt that if you don't change before it goes - it proves disastrous and very expensive. Please help.

This is for a 2003 Vauxhall Astra which I assume is a Mark 4

Thanks for any help you can give

    Toothed belt = Timing/Cam belt

Ribbed belt = Auxillary belt - ie alternator/aircon (if fitted)

40,000miles or 4yrs is the recommended interval for timing belts.... We always advise you change the belt, roller(s), tensioner, water pump

What engine have you got as some are chain driven and therefore not an issue

    Welcome to the site anyway
