    Loose Driveshaft ?

Lately when hitting bumps iv noticed a rattle from what feels like the wheels area.

Yesterday i got under the car and had a good look round, all the bushes looked ok. I checked the driveshaft by pushing and pulling and when i done the long driver side shaft it banged. I think iv found the problem.

Is it supposed to do this and if not what needs replacing? Iv got a day off monday so will be repairing it then.

Make sure that your hub nut is tight and secured with a split pin, and also check that the big washer is there also, would be my first area to look.

theres also a spring clip on the end of the driveshaft then goes into the diff, means you really have to tug at it to get it out, if this isnt there the cv joint and go in and out making a banging noise.

The driveshaft is very loose when i pull it. Theres no resistance at all and it just bangs when i pull it towards the wheel.

The passenger side resists quite abit and doesnt make contact with anything.

Its a mk3 if that makes any difference.

Reason for edit: "The shaft is very loose when i pull it & the other half resists and doesnt bang at all " needed changing for obvious reasons
