Am i being ripped off by vauxhall??

hi peeps, my key is slightly bent (as in quite litterly got a slight bend)
i asked if they can copy the key, but they say it'll cost round 130-150 quid... its a 1999 T reg astra.

They said something along the lines of the key having a code... but i found this chip (which i think is the code) this is completely seperate from the key, and can be pulled out to fit into, a possibly new, key.... so whats going on?

the keys are coded and they've quoted you to replace a whole new key. the chip in the key is the chip for the immobiliser, yes mate so whatever you do don't lose it!

if its just the blade of the key thats bent, then have a look on ebay and find a blank blade, it'll cost you about £6-£7. then find a locksmith who can cut it for you. the blade part of your key is seperate from the fob as you probably know, so once you've got a new blade cut, attach it to your "old" fob (with the chip in there obviously) and you don't need anything else doing apart from possibly resyncing the fob (2 min job and can be done yourself). will be £20-£25 tops I would have thought, including getting the key cut (which is the expensive bit).

Yeah its only the blade of the key, the rest is fine, i even re-synced the remote locking myself.
This is what the key is...

went to Timpsons to get a copy, and the dude says they can't do it because they don't have the bracket, and that its past 08.
but is it still possible JUST to get the blade copied, at least til i get enough money to pay it? or does the car only start with the key being programed???????? (i'm confused!! )

oh and the bracket i was on about was this

best off doin what was suggested earlier and sourcing a blank key and having it cut - then whack in ur original remote part and bobs ur uncle

heres an example - although youd need to check first to see if its the right type of key
