    removing metal gear knob

    hi guys
    thinking of putting new gear knob on and i was just wondering how do you take off the aluminium ones on the astra coupe turbo, ive tried turning to no avail and cant see any grub screw.do you have to take the cap off in the centre?

    hi steve theres a how to section in here that shows you step by step instructions on the removal and replacment of the gear knob on the astra coupe

    the one in the how to is only a rubber gear knob, i did this in my astra coupe and this is the god's truth................i actually had to take the gear stick out of the car and get an angle grinder to it

    worked though

    you would be better off buying another one. the metal gear knob assembly (stick included etc) from the coupe/gsi goes for around £25-£30 on ebay, so buy one thats either already been done or is a cheap rubber one, then butcher that to fit a new gearknob. sell the metal one on, and you'll find the whole kit & kaboodle has only cost a fraction of what you initially expected to pay, AND you'll have saved a lot of hassle

    its got no gear knob on so its ready to go m8

    hi fellas
    thanks for the info
    i think ill do what miK said and cut this one off, its just getting the lever sent over to ireland knocks the price up and id reather a bit of graft and buy an even nicer gear knob
    i have an angle grinder that ive only used once or twice so it will give me a reason to use it.
