    Vectra

Sold my Astra last week, so looking for a car at the moment. Got my eye on '02 Vectra 1.8 SRI (130). Are these engines the same as in the Astra 1.8's? Anybody know anything about them maintenance wise? I was looking at the 2.2 but avoiding due to the timing chain problems. Been told the 1.8's need the timing chain, water pump and cambelt changed every 40k miles, true or false?

    Any info appreciated!

The vetcras run the Z18XE engine same as the astras. The timing belt rollers, tensioners and water pump all need changing at 40K. As for the 2.2 phone up Vauxhall to make sure that the recall was carried out on the car and if not negotiate yourself a nice discount on the car.

So you don't need to change everything every 40k, its just at 40k? How much should will this cost at 40k?

Tbh the Vectra B is a pretty miserable car all round. Ride and handling would have been average in the '80s and the interior isn't much better.

An Astra G is a better car in every way, other than a bit of space. I had a Vectra 1.8 for a while, until I came to my senses.

edit- sorry. I know you didn't ask for any opinions on them, but I can't help but share my feeling on the issue lol.

On the Z18XE (1. you need to change the cam belt @ 40K
On the Z22se (2.2) you need to change the timing chain at about 100K ish

Yeah thats right timing belt, cambelt and water pump is recommended to be changed at 40,000 miles. However I have been told you need to change them at every 40,000 miles i.e 40k, 80, 120k.... and so on. Just wanted to know if this was true?

Well yeah, the new belt is no different to the one that was on there originally so will need to be changed gain at 80k and then again at 120k.

I find the vectra a good drive tbh, I wouldnt compare it to the astra tbh as its a different car. but space is great and I enjoy driving it.

I have owned alot more irriatating cars than the vectra.

The poverty spec ones are pretty drab, but sri and gsi's aint bad at all.

It all comes down to what you want from a car and the 2.2 engine aint that bad.

You do get a lot of car for **** all cash.

They dont age as well as astras though

I should say... GSi's still give me the horn.

Cooking spec models are hard to recommend other than value for money and space.

They do come with the most tragic gearboxs, pretty much regardless of spec.
