    Brake Discs/Pads Question/Query...

am i right in what I'm looking at? the prices seem ridiculously cheap compared to my old mk4...

    Mintex Discs/Pads (Solid Discs/236mm setup) £39.98 delivered
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-ASTRA...QQcmdZViewItem

    Mintex Discs/Pads (Vented Discs/256mm setup) £47.94 delivered
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MINTEX-BRAKE-D...QQcmdZViewItem

so which would be suitable for my 1.6 16v? either? if poss I'd go for the bigger ones, at that price seems pretty good

why do all the ads say "check if you have vented standard discs" etc? I fitted vented/grooved discs to my old 206 and that was solid discs as standard? is it all to do with different calipers or something?

To do with different calipers, vented discs wont fit into a non-vented caliper etc. The first ones listed are solid discs so not for your car. 2nd ones should be fine.

excellent cheers DD. you don't happen to know if there are an even bigger set of calipers/discs etc available as standard on the mk3? wondered if they did 280mm in 4 stud as standard fit, and if I'd just need new calipers or if I'd need carriers/brackets etc?

You can fit some Fiat coupe turbo brakes, 288mm, just need redrilled to 4-stud and a small hub spacer, fit fine with 16v calipers.

256s were the biggest OE size on the mk3

If u wanted 4 stud 280s youd have to fit a kit like im doin to my mk4 and source parts from other models - mix n match then maybe get other parts fabricated up.... if ur on a budget (a tight one at that) then probs best just whackin on a set of standards 256s like the link

EDIT: Bugger... DD beat me to posting so ignore mine lol

excellent cheers guys, I'll look into the fiat coupe discs, any machine shop should be able to redrill them shouldn't they? fiat are 4x98 IIRC from my Punto, are the fiat coupe the same? or 5 stud?

You'll need 288mm calipers though to fit 288mm discs.
Or you saying the fiat calipers go straight on?
