I've got a 3 month old 1.9CDTI s/h, so it's under warranty, but wanted some advice on this issue before approaching dealer.
Looking under the car, I've noticed a fluid leak. I don't see any evidence on the ground though, so I wouldn't have noticed unless I was looking at the underside of the car.
On the passenger side, the bottom of the gearbox appears to have a tacky covering of fluid, with drips accumulating at the lowest point. If it wasn't for the fact the coating seems inconsistent, I would think it was may maybe some sort of weather proofing, however I am sure it is related to a leak. I can wipe the fluid of with my finger although it is particularly tacky and milky white at it heaviest accumulation points.
The engine oil level has not moved since new and the PAS fluid seems to be OK.
It's difficult to see without being able to get right underneath the car, but it doesn't feel like engine oil - what's confusing is that there is another much smaller collection on the sump. There's a trickle stain down the side of the sump and a thin coating across the bottom of the sump (presumably distributed by the wind).
However, it is a lot heavier on the bottom on the transmission components on the passenger side.
I am not sure whether these deposits are related to the same leak.
I have noticed some difficulty in getting into 1st gear on ocassions and I did notice this before I spotted this before noticing the potential leak - so this is likely to be legit rather than imaginary.
My question is presumably "some seepage" is not normal ? is this likely to be related to single leak ? are there fluid level sensors in the gearbox ? would these show as an alarm on the dashboard and/or diagnostic computer ?
I know the answer is obviously to take to dealer - but I am concerned they will simply clean the evidence of the leak, I don't know how much fluid has been lost (I could have lost a lot whilst driving) and I don't believe I have anyway of dipping the gearbox to determine whether fluid has been lost - and in fact, whether it has been replaced by the dealer if necessary (unless I am wrong here ?)
Any advice/comments ?
