I've had time to think and still cannot work this out - has anyone had to set up the timing on the 1.7dti before, if so - how do you do it - what lines up with what etc... I am at a loss here and scared to start her up - even though I 'think' everything is fine. Is there anyone in the Derby area? , small reward offered - determined to get this done myself for future reference...!
I've spent most of the day today on my X reg 8 valve 1.7dti Isuzu engine. I have managed to get all the covers off for the timing belt, sorted out the tensioner' and got the new belt on.
Before starting the engine I am trying to crank the engine over from the crankshaft gear wheel and it can rotate about 40 degs in either direction, but then locks solid. Whilst changing the belt I fitted the locking bolts in the right places on the injection and camshaft pulleys.
I made the error of releasing the crankshaft gear wheel nut (yes with a large bar) to get the pulley off, before realising that it was the 4 smaller bolts around it. I then refitted the camshft gear wheel nut and fitted the timing belt. I now need to check the TDC marks on the cam gear wheel line up with the the cylinder 1, cam TDC postion, it looks right by eye, but WHY OH WHY CAN'T I BAR THE ENGINE OVER?
Afraid to start engine for obvious reasons. HELP REQUIRED... I have the workshop manuals, and the only thing I have done wrong was remove and replace the bolt for the cam gear wheel, I did this with the TDC holding bolts for the injection and cam shaft pulley in place and think that I may have juimped a couple of teeth in the old belt - no evidence of this though on inspection of the belt.
WHY CAN'T I BAR THE ENGINE OVER...!? Please help?
