has anyone been to Bulgaria or Croatia or recommend a holiday destination.

We are struggling to find a decent holiday location (in Europe) for our holiday this year.

    We like:

    Sandy Beaches
    Quiet
    Small Hotels
    Pool
    Local History
    Old buildings/old towns
    Good Food

A couple of people have suggested Bulgaria or Croatia? Anyone been or can suggest a non touristy holiday destination that would meet our above requirements?

    cheers for any gen

My parents went to Bulgaria for their 25th wedding anniversary and were not very impressed with it, but i think that was more down to that hotel because ther service was terrible and very much targeted at the german tourists.

I can ask them for more details though if you want?

Yeah sure no problem, will have a word with them later

Have you thought about Turkey as a destination, i went a couple of years ago and had an awesome time, went on two day trip to go round some of the archilogcal (sp) sights and other historical stuff, was really interesting and the people are really friendly, weather was scorching (June.july time we went) and the medittrean(sp) food is some of the best around IMO.

Failing that Cyprus and some of the smaller greek Islands are the pretty much the same as turkey and well worth a look IMO.

Off to Malta next week, went last year and had a good time. Couple of Sandy beaches and is really quiet at this time of year.

Loads of history there, most of it World War I/II related.

    Fair enough Mat.

Went to Cyprus this year and had a great time, hired a car for two days and went all over the Island to see the historical sites etc and touristy places, i would deffently recommend it.

Have heard good things about Kefalonia but never been myself.
