    Bizarre Picture Request

Right folks .... here we go

I need pics of brake pads (make is irrelevant - but mention if u know) from a Mk4 running 280/308s & Mk5 running 280/308s

The reason I ask is that Im due to do a 280 4stud conversion on my Mk4 using Mk5 parts....anyway thats irrelevant here

    BUT

The calipers Ive got are shared between Astra H 4 stud 256mm, 4 & 5 stud 280mm, Astra H 5 stud 308mm & Astra G 280/308mm.... (Also Corsa C/Meriva/Zaffy) One would assume as its the same caliper then the brake pads would be the same.....

    BUT

EBC for instance lists (for Greenstuff)
    DP21183 for Mk4 280/308 &
    DP21520 for Mk5 280/308

    Vauxhall list:
    93181189 for Astra H 4 stud 256mm, 4 stud 280mm, 5 stud 280mm
    93186713 for Astra H 5 stud 308mm
9192157 for Astra G 5 stud 280mm (or 9195145 aftermarket spec - presume this is just better material)
    93173734 for Astra G 5 stud 308mm

**Maybe the pad size and dimensions are exactly the same but its just a different pad compound **

Either way Im totally bewildered by it all

I can easily get some Greenstuff DP21520 as these will definitely fit my Mk5 calipers....but Im just confused that if its the same caliper between the models then surely it would use the same pads.

Can someone please advise me here....

Irrespective of them being fitted to a Mk4.... the entire setup is from a Mk5 5stud (they are just being fitted with Mk4 4 stud hubs & 4 stud discs from a Meriva/Astra H 4stud)

Any help would be appreciated....Sorry for mammoth post.

Can't help with any piccies, but I know for a fact that ...

    9195145 for Astra G 5 stud 280mm
    93173734 for Astra G 5 stud 308mm

are interchangeable as I had the 9195145 pads in originally with my standard 280's, and the went for the 93173734 when I fitted 308's. From using them both, I'd just say the 308 pads are slight better compound

not much direct help, but maybe a piece of the puzzel for you

Thats great Geoff....least I definitely know Astra G 280/308 pads are directly interchangeable....just need to find out if these same pads can be used in Astra H calipers

You're right tho - its definitely one hell of a puzzle.

Ah well at least I can enjoy rebuilding the setup and refurbing the calipers to keep me entertained

    any use? https://safe.brakeparts.co.uk/loadnew.html

    Diagrams and sizes

Going what I can glean from there - and knowing that the 280 and 308 spec pads are interchangeable, it looks like it's just down to compound.

Defo interested in seeing it when (not if!!) you get it finished

    Been done already, Old news

As I mentioned in my reply in the chassis thread the pads I used on my missus SXi 280 conversion were from a 308mm Astra H setup which are the same as the 280/308mm pads on the Astra G setup. The caliper carriers were my old SRi 280mm 5-stud ones.

Make sure you have the caliper carrier mounting bolts from the 280/308mm setup as the 256mm brakes don't use them and they are needed for the conversion. Use the discs retaining screw from your original setup.

If you want to know anything more let me know.

Yeah Ive got all the fasteners here as I dismantled the setup today....my only main concern now is that the H knuckles fit my car...

Thanks for confirming the pads situation - just waiting for confirmation on the discs then I can get ordering

    PM sent RE: discs

as for the knuckles if they look the same as the Astra G ones I would say they will be OK, the Astra H ones mount tot he suspension strust int he sae way so would imagine they are the same design.
