Im after a little info on gearboxes used in astra's esp the MK5
Ive got a accident damaged 57plate 1.9cdti 150bhp XP astra at work.
Theres little body damage, mainly the engine mount is smashed and the gearbox is cracked.
Im currently working out the most cost effective way to put the car back on the road as its only done 300miles.
Ive spoke to vauxhall and they claim that i cant buy a new gearbox casing.
Thye also claim that the 150bhp 1.9cdti uses the M32 box the same as the VXR.
According to thatcham price guide theres 2 boxes for the diesel.
Only the gear ratios are different but they are priced at
£2000 for the lower ratio and £3000 for the higher one.
Yet the VXR box is only £1800.
Can i get away with fitting a M32 from a VXR or not?
Im currently looking at £6500 +vat for the parts, labour paint and materials which is approaching write off catagory.
So you can see why i want to try save best part of 3k
Thanks in advance
